The lists contain only the officers and persons who played significant roles during the three voyages. I felt there were too many other crew members to include everyone.

Geoff, the muster book of the Resolution usually gives the age and home town of each crew member. But William Widdall is one of the few for ehich this information is lacking. The only data I can pass on is that he enlisted on 19 March 1776. It also says that he was appointed to the Resolution by warrant, as a sailmaker he was above the ordinary seaman, but below the ship's officers. He survived the voyage of the Resolution, so he may have been appointed to another ship of the Royal Navy after his return in 1780. I came across a website which says that this Wm Widdall was born in 1748 at Southampton. But what was the evidence for this claim, I do not know.

Diana, there are two men called John Ravenhill in the story of James Cook. One was a sailmaker who served on Endeavour. He was one of the older members of the crew who was 49 when he enlisted in 1768. He came from Hull, Yorkshire. He died on the voyage home and was buried at sea.
Another John Ravenhill, and his wife Jane, were left small bequests in the Will of Elizabeth Cook. It is thought that this was John Ravenhill who was a magistrate and lived in Clapham, where Mrs Cook lived out her days.

Angela, I have looked through the names of all of the men who sailed with Captain Cook on his three voyages of exploration. I did not find anybody named Norman Dale, or with the surname Normandale. Sorry.

My family (Watson) have a Resolution and Adventure medal as a hierloom. I would like to know why. One possibility is a Watson among the crew but I don't see the name in the crew lists. Any suggestions?

Clive, I have checked the list of all the names of the crew and marines who served on Captain Cook's three voyages. I must inform you that there was nobody named Hipkin (or any surname similar to that) who sailed with Cook on his voyages.

Charles, I am pleased to confirm that a Thomas Bean served as an AB seaman in Discovery, the companion vessel to Captain Cook's ship Resolution, on his third voyage of exloration (1776-1780).
He was 23 years old when he enlisted in 1776, and was living in the town of Deptford. That is all the information that is known about Thomas Bean, have you any information about him?
